Owner-Winemaker Chris Dearden found his first introduction to wine as many of us do: around the dinner table amongst family and friends. Raised in an agricultural town in the Central Valley of California, Dearden was always able to draw a correlation between the treatment of land and the quality of the product. He has carried this value and strong connection to farming throughout his career.

2010 marked the beginning of a new chapter for Chris when he established the Dearden Wines Portfolio which today includes flagship Sleeping Giant Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot noir and Chardonnay; Little Giant Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosato; Argus Pinot noir; One-Iron Red Blend; Two-Iron Cabernet Sauvignon; Three-Iron limited production Zinfandel; Train Wreck Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon blanc; and Costa del Sol Red Blend.

Coombsville is the youngest AVA in Napa Valley but has become the “hot spot” for some of Napa’s latest boutique wines. A hollowed out bowl of volcanic ash that sits above and behind the town of Napa gets windblown by the San Pablo bay. High iron soils bring a unique minerality to the wines and the ash trails from Mt. George allow roots to run extremely deep. The fruit was hand harvested and rushed to the winery where it was destemmed into a small, open topped fermenter. It fermented on the skins to extract all the color and flavor possible. It was lightly pressed and then placed in small, French oak barrels for aging.

This Coombsville Cab opens on the nose with Santa Rosa plum, tobacco leaf and sage, but soon evolves to show raspberry and coffee. Notes of dark chocolate, sweet oak and macerated strawberries envelop the palate and a bright acidity carries every sip to a clean finish. Enjoy with a grilled rack of lamb or a hearty bolognese!
