Our idea was to bring together an extraordinary and emblematic California vineyard with a “centuries in the making” Burgundian perspective; therefore, producing wines born from a historic and iconic California vineyard, cultivated and vinified with a Burgundian heart. We have selected 12 rows from Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir vines to carefully and organically cultivate.
The Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, today cared for by the Terlato family, is often referenced as one of California’s iconic, most historically significant and renowned vineyards. First planted in 1972 by cofounders Michael Benedict and Richard Sanford, this site is a geologic marvel. About 10 thousand years ago, earthquakes and seismic activity created the landslide that deposited ancient marine-based Monterey shale on the spot that today is the dramatic Sanford & Benedict Vineyard.
98 Points Wine Advocate - Review below
"The 2020 Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir The Twelve Rows is a fantastic wine with tremendous flavor-to-weight ratio. Medium ruby, the nose blossoms continually from dried red cherries, strawberries and raspberries to wafts of graphite, woodsmoke, bergamot, tea leaves and violet. The medium-bodied palate's flavors echo all those lovely aromatics, offering wave after wave of perfumed red fruit. It has abundant, finely grained tannins and is bursting with refreshing acidity that continues to call you back to the glass on the hauntingly long finish. This is the first iteration of Twelve Rows Pinot Noir that was made with destemmed fruit; generally, it is vinified with 40-60% whole clusters. It has resulted in a pure, layered expression. (EB)"
